FIRE & ICE

(CONTRAST THERAPY)

Our Fire & Ice room, involves alternating between the heat exposure of sauna and cold exposure of cold plunge, combining the benefits of both modalities to create a powerful therapeutic experience. While each modality alone has significant benefits, contrast therapy maximizes these benefits through the powerful effects of alternating heat and cold.

The Fire & Ice room features a 2-3 person traditional dry sauna and a Plunge® Evolve cold plunge.

Benefits of Contrast Therapy

1. Enhance Circulation and Vascular Health

Alternating between hot and cold environments causes blood vessels to dilate and constrict. This repeated vasodilation and vasoconstriction acts as a “vascular workout,” improving overall circulation and strengthening blood vessels. This process helps to optimize blood flow throughout the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients more efficiently while removing metabolic waste products.

2. Muscle Recovery and Reduce Soreness

The sauna relaxes muscles and increases blood flow, which helps to reduce muscle stiffness and soreness. The cold plunge, on the other hand, reduces inflammation and numbs nerve endings, providing immediate pain relief. By alternating between heat and cold, contrast therapy speeds up the recovery process by flushing out lactic acid and other metabolic waste while simultaneously reducing inflammation.

3. Lymphatic Drainage and Detoxification

The lymphatic system relies on muscle movement and external pressure to circulate lymph fluid throughout the body. The combination of heat (which increases circulation) and cold (which promotes lymphatic contraction) helps to enhance lymphatic drainage, aiding in the removal of toxins and waste products. Ending with cold helps to “seal” the lymphatic vessels, ensuring that toxins are efficiently moved out of the body.

4. Immune Function

The stress induced by alternating between hot and cold environments can stimulate the immune system, increasing the production of white blood cells and enhancing immune function. The thermal stress activates the body’s adaptive responses, making it more resilient to infections and illnesses over time. Ending with a cold plunge is believed to “kick-start” the immune system by triggering a final, potent release of immune-boosting factors.

5. Mental Clarity and Stress Relief

Contrast therapy stimulates the release of endorphins and other stress-relieving hormones, which can improve mood and reduce anxiety. The heat from the sauna promotes relaxation, while the cold plunge provides a drug-free invigorating boost for your mind and body that you must experience for yourself.

Maximize your health benefits by combining the benefits of both sauna and cold plunge therapies with a Fire & Ice session at Rohaven Holistic.
